A phone call just before the cloudburst in Kullu has saved hundreds of lives. A person from Choj village from Gahar, a very inaccessible village of Parvati valley, got a call at around 5:15 am on Wednesday. Told that a storm-like sound is coming in the hill behind the village. It’s raining heavily. and seems like a cloudburst. Everyone should leave their homes and go to a safe place. After this, the news of cloudburst spread throughout the village. Whistling and shouting all over the valley was heard to wake up the locals and tourists. All hotels, home stays and camping sites along the Choj Nala and Parvati river were informed.
Locals and the tourists ran towards the available safe places, but four people went missing in the terrible scene.
The rains that started early on Wednesday have caused crores of damages from Katagala village of Parvati valley to Manikaran and Choj. Naumi Ram of Katagala village said that due to floods in Katagala village, there has been a large amount of land erosion. Flood debris and rocks have stopped around the village. This has put the village in danger for days to come.
