In an unusual yet culturally rooted incident from the Shillai region of Sirmaur district, two brothers have married the same woman, a tradition that has historical presence in the Hatti tribal community. According to local sources, one of the brothers is employed in a government job, while the other is currently working abroad. The woman, now wife to both, has completed her education from an ITI institute.
This practice, although rare in many parts of the country, is not unfamiliar in the Hatti tribal belt. Traditionally, such arrangements help prevent the division of family land and ensure familial unity. In this particular case, both the family and the local community have accepted the marital arrangement.
Local residents noted that this practice has existed for generations in some tribal areas of Himachal Pradesh, including Sirmaur, and continues to be acknowledged under customary norms.
The event has generated significant discussion online, with many tagging it as a “viral” topic, but within the region, it is largely seen through the lens of cultural tradition rather than controversy.
