The Congress Legislature Party has decided that the party will not field its candidate in the Rajya Sabha elections. The Election Commission has fixed March 21 as the last date for filing nomination papers for the Shimla seat of Rajya Sabha. Polling will be held on March 31 and the result will be declared on the same day. On the other hand, BJP has declared Dr. Sikander Kumar, former VC of Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) as its candidate.
At present, senior Congress leader Anand Sharma is a Rajya Sabha MP from this seat. His term ends on April 2. Leader of Opposition Mukesh Agnihotri told here on Sunday that the CLP has decided that the Congress will not field its candidate.
