Such events are very important to preserve and promote the culture of the state and ensure participation of youth in it. This was said today by Padmashree Vidyanand Saraik, senior folk musician, litterateur at the closing ceremony of the district level folk dance and instrumental competition organized by the Department of Language and Culture on the occasion of the Amrit Festival of Independence at the historic Gaiety Theater. He said that in order to spread the culture of the state and provide a platform to the budding artists and budding talents, this is a unique festival organized by the Department of Language and Culture, Shimla, where 10 folk dance teams and 7 musical instruments came from the district. He said that by participating in such events, the spirit of competition is created among the artists, while their understanding of the folk culture comes in maturity. He said that the department is making efforts for artists, litterateurs and thinkers associated with other genres. He said that while today’s young generation is getting attracted towards western civilization, through these cultural programs, where we will attract our young generation towards our culture, we will also preserve our rich cultural heritage. During this, Jayeshwari cultural group Jais Ghati Theog, Saraswati Kala Manch Theog, Jaydev Kurgan cultural group Sunni, Mahasu youth cultural group Prisoner Nerva, Churdhar Kalamanch Kanda Banah Kupvi, Maneshwar cultural group Manan Theog, Chehta cultural group Panj Baiya Kupvi, Bhagwati cultural group Shantha Chapal, Shiv Ranjani Cultural Team Balag, Maneshwar Folk Dance Team Manan Theog and Instrumental Team Jai Bijat Maharaj Cultural Arts Forum Shakvi Kupvi, Sogeshar Kala Manch Barvog Phagu, Saraswati Instrumental Team Theog, Instrumental Team Prisoner Nerva, Devta Bendra Instrumental Team Kotkhai , Kuteshwari Cultural Dal Nehra Theog, Lotus Welfare Society Theog and Swar Sangam Karyala Kala Manch, Shimla presented Karyala. At the inauguration of the program, special guest secretary, language and culture, Rakesh Kanwar and director of language and culture, Dr. Pankaj Lalit was present on the occasion. Rakesh Kanwar specially honored Padma Shri Vidyanand Saraik on behalf of the department and appreciated his unique contribution towards the culture of the state. The main jury who came to play the role of jury in this competition, Dr. Ram Swaroop Shandil and Dr. Gopal Bhardwaj and Bihari Lal Sharma were also present. During this, Jaidev Kurgan cultural team Sunni came first in the competition by the chief guest, Bhagwati cultural team Shantha Chapal in second place and Mahasu Yuvak cultural group Prisoner Nerva and Saraswati Kala Manch Theog in third place and Saraswati Kala in musical instrument. The artists of Manch Theog, Kuteshwari Cultural Dal Nehra Theog in second place and musical instrument team Jai Bijat Maharaj Cultural Kala Manch Shakavi Kupvi in third place were honored. On this occasion Assistant Director Language, Art and Culture Department Kusum Sadhaiik, Language Officer Sarojini Narwal, District Language Officer Anil Kumar Harta and other officers were present.
