An earthquake of magnitude 3.4 on the Richter scale was recorded in Chamba in the state at around 9.13 pm on Thursday night. Tremors of the earthquake were also recorded in Lahaul. According to the Meteorological Center Shimla, its epicenter was at a depth of five kilometers underground in Chamba district. Many people came out of their homes after feeling the tremors of the earthquake. However, no damage was reported due to the earthquake. Even before this, there have been earthquakes in Chamba. Deputy Commissioner Lahaul-Spiti Neeraj Kumar said that no damage was reported from the earthquake. Himachal comes in zone five, that is, the most vulnerable category in terms of earthquakes. On 4 April 1905, a major earthquake of 7.8 magnitude occurred in Himachal. After this, major earthquakes have been frequent in Himachal. An earthquake of magnitude 6.4 struck Kullu on 28 February 1906. In the year 1930 also there was an earthquake of 6.10 magnitude. This was followed by earthquakes of magnitude 6 in 1945 and 6.8 in 1975. Chamba, Kullu, Kangra, Una, Hamirpur, Mandi, Bilaspur fall in seismic zone five and Lahaul-Spiti, Shimla, Sirmaur, Solan in zone four of the state. According to experts, people should build earthquake resistant houses instead of random construction so that their life can be saved in the time of disaster.
