Himachal Pradesh has become the first LPG enabled and smoke free state in the country due to Ujjwala scheme of the Central Government and Grihini Suvidha Yojana of the State Government. The Center had started the Ujjwala scheme to rid women of serious diseases caused by smoke while lighting a wood stove. The state government also started Grihini Suvidha Yojana to benefit more and more women.
According to an official spokesperson, 1.36 lakh free domestic kitchen connections were given by the central government at a cost of Rs 21.81 crore under the Ujjwala scheme, while 3.23 lakh housewives were given Rs 120 crore under the state government’s Grihini Suvidha Yojana. The spokesperson said that the Mukhyamantri Grihini Suvidha Yojana was launched on May 26, 2018. Under this scheme being implemented for environmental protection, LPG connections are being distributed free of cost to families without gas connections. The objective of launching the scheme was to provide free gas connections to those families which were not covered under the Centre’s Ujjwala scheme.
On the lines of the Ujjwala scheme, the state government started the Chief Minister Grihini Suvidha Yojana. The Ujjwala Yojana being run by the Central Government and the Chief Minister Grihini Yojana of the State Government are nothing less than a boon for the women of the state. These schemes have reduced the dependence on wood for fuel. The adverse effect of smoke on women’s health has also been relieved. Due to these schemes, the standard of living of women has also improved.
