Justice Inder Singh Mehta has been appointed as the chairman of the State Consumer Commission. This post was lying vacant since July 2020. He has been a judge of Delhi High Court from 2014 to April 2020. He is retired from Delhi High Court.
Justice Mehta is basically a resident of Lippa village in Moorang tehsil of Kinnaur district. Principal Secretary Food Supplies and Consumer Affairs RD Nazeem has issued the notification of his appointment late in the evening. A petition is also pending in the Supreme Court in this regard, in which the state government has been ordered to fill the posts of chairpersons in consumer courts by 31 January 2022. The compliance report has been asked to be filed by 30 February 2022.
