The dream of former Prime Minister Atal Vihari Bajpayee’s dream project Kalka-Shimla Fourlane is going to come true soon. In the third phase of the project, the newly prepared DPR report from Kaithlighat to Shimla has been approved by the Central Government. After a long wait of about two years, now the construction of four lane will start soon. The 27.5 km stretch of Kaithlighat-Shimla will be constructed in two phases. Three thousand crore rupees will be spent on this. In the first phase, the work of Kaithlighat to Sharla and the second phase will be done from Sharala to Mashobra-Dhali Junction. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has started the tender process for the 17.4 km work in the first phase. Rs 1760 crore will be spent on this. Vehicles will now pass through five tunnels and 29 bridges from Kaithlighat to Dhali-Mashobra Junction. Apart from this, an attractive heritage cable stay bridge will also be built.
It is worth mentioning that the engineers of NHAI and the consultant officers of the company were engaged in preparing the DPR report for two years. Now after getting approval from the Central Government, the company has invited tenders for the tender for this work. After that the four lane construction work will start. The first phase of this dream project is to be constructed from Kalka-Pinjore, the second phase from Pinjore to Kaithlighat and in the third phase from Kaithlighat to Dhali Junction. On the other hand, NHAI Project Director SK Sharma said that the DPR report for the four lane till Kaithlighat-Dhali has been approved. This project will be completed by 2024.
