In Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba district, Mandola, a primary school, has no electricity connection since 18 years. During the winter season, students are forced to take the exam in the dark. To save the staff and students from the cold, the department has sent heaters to the school, but till date electricity has not been arranged to run them. These days the period of examinations has started in schools. In such a situation, 43 students studying in Mandola School have to first walk one and a half km from the village in the cold winter and then have to give paper in the dark with trembling hands in the cold. In routine, his classes also take place in the dark. Because, there is darkness in closed rooms without electricity. If the weather turns bad, the difficulties for teachers and students increase. In bad weather the sunlight disappears in the sky. It is not that the administration and the department have not been made aware of this problem. Rather, the school management committee and the local people have informed the department and administration about the problem several times. Surprisingly, the problem has not been solved yet. School Management Committee President Duni Chand said that there has been snowfall in the area in the past. Due to this, the cold has increased significantly in the area. Children have to take the exam by moving in the snow. Said that when he asks the board officials for electricity connection, every time he is postponed by giving assurances. This assurance is being given for the last 18 years. Surprisingly, even the government is not taking this matter seriously. On one hand the government is making claims of providing better education, while on the other hand, the lack of even electricity connection in the school is exposing the claims of the government. He has demanded from the government and administration that electricity should be provided in the school. Board’s Executive Engineer Pawan Sharma said that the tender has been allotted for providing electricity to the school. As soon as the essential goods arrive, the connection work will start.
