Urban poor unemployed youth of Himachal Pradesh will now get employment on the lines of MNREGA. The state government is going to make Chief Minister Urban Livelihood Guarantee Scheme a law. The draft bill of this bill will be placed in the cabinet meeting to be held on Monday. After the approval of the cabinet, the bill will be brought in the budget session. In this bill, it has been said to provide 120 days of employment to the youth. It will be mandatory to give this employment within 15 days. If the youth do not get employment, then the government has made arrangements to give them unemployment allowance.
At present, the daily wage under MNREGA is Rs 300, which Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur has announced to increase by Rs 50 more in the budget speech. The increased daily wage of Rs 350 will be applicable from April. Its terms and conditions are being prepared by the Urban Development Department. The state government will spend Rs 5 crore on the employment guarantee scheme for the urban poor. So far 6200 youth have registered themselves in the urban bodies of the state. Many of these have also been given employment, but due to lack of law, unemployed youth and urban development department were also facing problems. Manmohan Singh, director of the Urban Development Department, said that the youth will be benefited by making rules and regulations.
