Shimla is one of the 30 urban centers chosen under the Smart City Mission launched by Narendra Modi , Hon’ble Prime Minister of India in 2015. The project approved by the Government of India aims at transforming the over 200 – year old hill town into a world – class , modern , urban paradise . Today the Department of Urban Development , Government of Himachal Pradesh has accorded and conveyed administrative approval & expenditure sanction to the tune of Rs . 3.24 crores to Shimla Police under Shimla Smart City project for the following works : An amount of Rs 2.65 crore has been sanctioned for installation of CCTV / ITMS at important places of the city . Under which , 219 CCTV cameras will be installed at 88 important places of Shimla city and Intelligent Traffic Management System ( ITMS ) will be installed at 05 places i.e. ( i ) Navbahar ( ii ) BCS Shimla ( iii ) Tutikandi ( iv ) Dhalli and ( ( v ) Totu .
Apart from this , 01 Central Control Center and Control Centers will be set up in 5 Police Stations of the city . In addition to above , already installed 147 CCTV cameras at 57 places will be linked with the Central Control Center . The CCTV cameras will be useful in maintenance of law and order , for improvement of traffic management , for prevention and detection of criminal activities and monitoring of suspicious persons , vehicles , objects etc. Resultantly it will enhance police capabilities to ensure better safety and security of the public . Apart from this , an amount of 60 lakhs has also been sanctioned to Shimla Police for purchase of Alco – sensor , Body Worn Camera , Laser Speed Gun , Speed Board and Electric Scooter .
