The High Court has once again expressed displeasure over the slow CBI investigation into the much talked about 250 crore scholarship scam in Himachal Pradesh. The court ordered that the CBI should file an affidavit stating how much time it would take to complete the investigation. Even before this, the High Court had expressed displeasure over the slow investigation in the case in April. The court had directed the CBI to expedite the investigation and complete it and file the charge sheet before the court of competent jurisdiction. The CBI presented the eighth status report in this case in the High Court on Wednesday. A division bench of Chief Justice AA Saeed and Justice Jyotsna Riwal Dua, while hearing the PIL filed by petitioner Shyam Lal, said that the investigation which has been going on for three years has not been completed yet.
The court ordered the CBI to inform about the time taken to complete the investigation. The next hearing on the matter has been fixed for September 19. At the same time, in the report presented by the CBI, it has been told that in the investigation so far, the involvement of 1176 institutions in the scam has been detected. Out of 266 private institutions, 28 institutions have been found involved in scholarship scam. On behalf of the CBI, the court was told that the investigation of 15 out of 28 institutions has already been completed and investigation is going on against the remaining 13 institutions. Seven charge sheets have been filed.
