The decision to give ownership rights to slum dwellers in Himachal Pradesh will benefit 3,008 Dhara owners in Shimla city. There are 36 hamlets in the city where people live in slums and dams. People have been living here for a long time. Now they will get ownership rights. The biggest advantage of this would be that every time the sword which used to hang over them every year to break the illegal construction, they would get relief.In Shimla city, more than 50 percent of the 20 wards have such settlements. Here people first built kutcha houses to live on government land and then made them concrete. Now they are expected to get ownership rights. In this, Krishnanagar has the maximum number of 1137 dams and houses which are built on government land. They are now expected to get ownership rights after this policy of the government.After the decision of the government, now they are waiting for the notification of the government. Similarly, there are 345 houses in Idgah which are to be benefited from it. From every big ward of the city to the small ward of the suburbs, there are such settlements where people have built houses by occupying government land and they live there for many years. These people had got electricity and water connections long back, but they did not have ownership rights.
Dhara owners have to fulfill the conditions Dhara owners also have to fulfill certain conditions in order to take ownership of their homes in the city. The land used for making the dhara should not exceed 75 sqm i.e. two biswa. If the occupation is done on forest land then it will not be regularised. Dhara must have been made before the year 1974.
Government has given big relief: Satya Kaundal
Municipal Corporation Mayor Satya Kaundal said that the state government has given great relief to the people of the city by taking this decision. For this, he has thanked Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur and Urban Development Minister Suresh Bhardwaj. These houses built on 5000 square meters in the city will now belong to the people. Earlier people were fighting a war to save these houses for a long time.
