Vigilance department has caught the Chief Scientific Officer of Himachal Pradesh Pollution Control Board (HPPCB) red-handed in Parwanoo, taking a bribe of Rs 35,000 from a doctor of a private hospital in Una district headquarters of Himachal Pradesh. The officer was demanding bribe for the consent letter for the sewerage treatment plant (STP) in the hospital. Vigilance has started investigation by arresting the accused. DSP Vigilance Una Anil Mehta said that sewerage treatment plant was installed in a private hospital in Una. For this necessary consent letter of Himachal Pradesh Pollution Control Board was required.
Fees and other formalities were completed for the plant, but Tej Bahadur Singh, Chief Scientific Officer of Pollution Control Board’s Central Lab Parwanoo Solan, Uttarakhand, asked for a bribe of Rs 35,000 for the consent letter. The doctor complained to the Vigilance. Vigilance laid a trap in a planned manner, in which the said officer got trapped and caught him red handed while taking bribe money in the office itself. The team has arrested the accused. A case has been registered against the accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Inspector Sanjeev Kumar is investigating the matter. The accused will be produced in the court on Friday.
