The State Electricity Board has filed a petition before the Electricity Regulatory Commission to decide on the new rates of electricity in the state. The board has proposed to increase the rates by 10 to 12 percent. Every year in the state, a petition is filed before the commission on behalf of the board to issue electricity tariff. This time also the Electricity Board has filed its petition as per the schedule fixed by the Commission. However, the commission will decide the new rates only after looking at all the aspects and requirements of the board. After this, there will be a public hearing in the whole matter and the commission will issue an order by fixing the electricity rates for the next financial year afresh. Meanwhile, an interim border will be issued by the commission. The board will file its full report on this and then the hearing on this petition will start. The State Electricity Board currently has a loss of 270 crores. In the year, the board has proposed an increase to meet its revenue and expenditure. Board’s Managing Director Pankaj Dadhwal admitted that the petition has been filed before the Commission. This is just a process.
