The teachers of the universities and colleges of Himachal Pradesh will get the UGC pay scale in a month. This announcement was made by Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur at the inauguration of Sardar Patel University in Mandi on Tuesday. Classes will start in this university in July. It became the second university in the state after Himachal Pradesh University Shimla. After the announcement of UGC pay scale, teachers of universities and colleges have called off the strike.
In the public meeting held at Mandi Dev Sadan after the inauguration of the university, the CM said that all 140 government and private colleges of five districts Mandi, Kullu, Lahaul-Spiti, Chamba and Kangra would come under this university. He said that the government has accepted the long standing demand of teachers to give UGC pay scale. Its notification will be issued in a month. He said that of course the government is passing through a phase of economic difficulty, but no one’s rights will stop.
Teachers had announced a complete education shutdown from July 5
The executive committee of the Joint Sangharsh Samiti said that the government is deferring the decision to implement the UGC pay scale, saying that the formation of committees. On June 25, the Punjab government had announced the implementation of the UGC pay scale. The committee is demanding to give the benefit of UGC pay scale to teachers from January 1, 2016. In the state, 1,000 teachers of universities and 2,000 teachers of colleges will get the benefit of UGC pay scale.
