In a setback to the Congress ahead of the assembly elections in Himachal Pradesh, former Union minister Anand Sharma on Sunday resigned as the chairman of the party’s steering committee. In a letter to Congress National President Sonia Gandhi, he said that he was being ignored in the party. They are not being given priority in important meetings and decisions for the assembly elections.

The high command has also recently included Sharma as a member of the State Congress Election Committee. Anand Sharma will now visit Shimla soon. It has been learned from party sources that since his posting as the President of the Congress Steering Committee in April 2022, Anand Sharma has not convened a single meeting, while other committees of the party, especially the Election Campaign Committee, Congress Election Manifesto Committee and Party Disciplinary Committee. The meetings have taken place several times.
Anand Sharma is one of the tall leaders of Himachal Pradesh. In a letter to the Congress President, he has written that his self-respect has been hurt as he was not consulted or invited to any party meeting. It may be noted that Anand Sharma was a Rajya Sabha member from 2009 to April 2022. He has held several key positions in the party.
