Himachal Pradesh University Shimla has topped in the report of National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), an autonomous institution of University Grants Commission. HPU has got 3.21 Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA). Shoolini University located in Solan is at number two receiving 2.92 CGPA. NAAC Report 2022 has been released by the Central Government. In this, the basic facilities in private colleges are said to be better than government. Recognized universities have been ranked according to CGPA in the NAAC report.

Central University Dharamshala is third with 2.78 CGPA, Chitkara University is fourth with 2.71 CGPA, Jaypee University is fifth with 2.66 CGPA, Manav Bharti University is sixth with 2.14 CGPA, Maharaja Agrasen University is seventh with 2.13 CGPA and Eternal University with 2.14 CGPA. Also ranked eighth. No university in Himachal has got A+ grade from NAAC. The universities of the state have got B grade. On the other hand, 296 colleges and 15 universities in Himachal Pradesh do not have NAAC accreditation. Out of 338 colleges in the state, only 42 out of 23 universities are recognized by NAAC. Applications have been made for NAAC accreditation from 69 colleges.
According to the NAAC report, the enrollment of students in the colleges of the state has increased during the last few years . In most of the colleges the admission process is going on online. Reservation in admission is being given to the students belonging to financially and socially weaker sections.
