Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Wednesday announced that the Himachal Pradesh government will recruit 800 additional police constables within two months through the State Selection Commission. The announcement came during the Rozgar Sankalp Mela at the Police Training College, Daroh, where he distributed appointment letters to 1,253 newly recruited constables.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister stated that his government had immediately put an end to malpractices like paper leaks that began during the BJP’s tenure. “Now youth are getting government jobs based on their merit and hard work,” he said.
Improvements in police welfare
CM Sukhu announced several initiatives for police personnel welfare. He has directed the Director General of Police to procure high-quality fabric from reputed companies for uniforms. The government is also seriously considering increasing the uniform grant for police constables.
Starting this year, all ex-servicemen will be designated as Honorary Head Constables after 10 years of service and Honorary Assistant Sub-Inspectors after 15 years of service.
Regarding promotions, the Chief Minister mentioned that a decision was taken to introduce the B-1 examination for promotions from Constable to Head Constable. Although there is an interim stay on this matter in the High Court, he assured that the government would strongly present its case.
