The soil of Devbhoomi Himachal will also be used in the building of the new Parliament House being built under the Central Vista project in the country’s capital Delhi. This soil has been sent from the Pangana Behre (Monument) complex, the rich heritage of 52 Chandravanshi rulers including the founder of Suket princely state.
The Government of India has asked for five kilograms of soil from all the states and union territories. This soil is being sent from those areas, which are related to the culture and civilization of the state or have played an important role in the formation of independent India. Suket was a princely state in India during the British Raj, with its capital at Pangana (in the Surhi area). Then this princely state was a part of Punjab Hill States.
In 1958, the then King of Suket, Lakshman Sen signed the Instrument of Accession, after which Suket became a part of India. Mandi district was formed by merging the princely states of Suket and Mandi, which is presently in Himachal Pradesh. It was founded in 1241 AD by King Virsen.
It is noteworthy that the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) will also cover the building with a layer of soil to improve the air quality in the long run from the environmental point of view.
The Suket Satyagraha had awakened the torch of the merger of the princely states, the
country got independence on August 15, 1947, but some princely states did not merge into the Indian republic immediately. The kings of these princely states continued to run their rule independently. In 1948, there was a movement in the name of Suket Satyagraha for the merger of these princely states into the Indian Republic.
Its leadership was taken by the freedom fighters Pt. Padma Dev, Dr. YS Parmar etc. in their hands. This torch was lit from Pangana, the ancient capital of the princely state of Suket. On February 8, 1948, a meeting of representatives of Praja Mandal was held in Sunni. In this it was decided to launch a Satyagraha for the merger of the princely states, which was successful in 1958.
