In Himachal Pradesh, Kanungo and Patwari will go to the field and prepare a drought report. The State Government has issued instructions to all the Deputy Commissioners in this regard. Within two days, the employees will report to the District Deputy Commissioners. There is drought in Himachal due to lack of rain on time. Apart from apple, wheat and garlic crops have suffered heavy losses. Apart from this, the water level of 700 drinking water schemes in the state has also fallen due to lack of rain. 60 per cent of the wheat crop in Himachal has been damaged due to drought. The situation is likely to worsen if there is no rain within a week.
Jal Shakti Minister Mahendra Singh Thakur was to have a meeting with Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur regarding the drought, but due to Jan Manch, now this meeting is proposed on Monday. In apple-dominated areas, orchards up to an altitude of 7,500 feet are seeing more drought. Wheat crop has been hit the hardest. The farmers have not got the crop according to their hard work. Jal Shakti Minister Mahendra Singh Thakur said that reports have been sought from all the districts. Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur will also hold a review meeting with various departments. After this, the government will take up the matter with the Center and demand that the state be declared drought-hit. It has been decided to identify locations for installation of hand pumps in drought prone areas. The experts of the department will select such places where hand pumps can be installed. This will give relief to the people from the scarcity of drinking water. The government will ask the central team to visit the affected areas.
