The government bus overturned from the road and fell into a ditch at 2:30 am on Wednesday in Hiranagar, 10 km from Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh. One youth has died in the accident, while 20 passengers have been injured. The condition of two is said to be serious. There were 25 passengers including the driver and operator in the bus. This bus (HP-94-0379) was coming from Nagrota in Kangra district to Shimla. Two passengers were trapped under the bus after the accident. They were pulled out from under the bus after three hours by the local people along with the police and SDRF. Of these, one youth Akash (23) son Naresh Kumar resident of Pandawin district Hamirpur died on the spot.
The injured were admitted to Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital for treatment. Bus operator Sudhir Kumar said that the truck coming from opposite direction hit the bus near Hiranagar. Due to this the balance of the bus got disturbed and going out of the road uncontrollably fell into the ditch. The bus had left for Shimla from Nagrota at 6:00 am. At 3:10, this bus was to return from Shimla to Nagrota. After the accident, the local people took the injured to IGMC in their private vehicles. The relief work faced problems due to rain.
Local people along with the police and SDRF assisted in the rescue work. On the other hand, HRTC General Manager Pankaj Singhal told that the fitness of this bus, which was registered on 2 November 2017, was till 20 October 2023. Till now the bus had covered 5,01,421 kms. Corporation officials were sent to the spot and IGMC after the accident. Superintendent of Police Shimla Dr. Monika Bhutungru said that one youth has died in the accident, all other injured have been sent to IGMC for treatment.
