The daily earning of Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) is Rs 2 crore, while the expenditure goes up to Rs 4 crore. The condition is that every month the corporation is taking a loan of about Rs 62 crore from the government to meet the salary, pension, TA, DA, medical bills, diesel and other expenses of the employees.
90% of the routes of the corporation are running in loss. Only five per cent routes are in profit, while on five per cent routes the corporation is neither profiting nor losing. Since the Corona epidemic, the financial condition of the Transport Corporation has not returned on track.
In the JCC meeting of pensioners held last day, Principal Secretary Transport RD Najim has clarified the financial position of Himachal Road Transport Corporation. Najim informed that there are 3300 buses in the fleet of the corporation, which are serving on 3800 routes. He said that raising the corporation from losses is no less than a challenge. The corporation is benefiting only from the routes of the outer states, while most of the routes of Himachal are in loss. The corporation is also incurring losses due to free travel for many classes in the buses of the Transport Corporation and discount in the fare for many. Due to the loss of the corporation, the employees are not able to get the salary on time and the pensioners get the pension.
