Tragic fall on Churdhar trek claims life of 27-year-old Preshita Mehta from Chayal Dublu

A 27-year-old woman died after slipping and falling off a hillside while on the Churdhar yatra on Saturday, in a tragic accident on the trek route near Mandahlani.

The deceased has been identified as Preshita Mehta, daughter of Shailendra Mehta, a resident of village Chayal Dublu in Shimla district.

According to information received, Preshita had set out on Saturday morning along with two companions headed toward Churdhar. Shortly after crossing Mandahlani, she lost her footing and fell down the hillside. She died on the spot.

Police were informed of the incident and reached the location, taking the body into custody and initiating necessary proceedings. The body has been shifted to Civil Hospital Chopal. The family of the deceased was informed by police, and the news has left the family in deep grief.

Police is investigating the circumstances and cause of the accident.

Churdhar, at an altitude of over 3,600 metres, is one of the highest peaks in the outer Himalayas and a prominent religious trekking destination. Trekkers are advised to exercise extreme caution on the route, particularly during and after the monsoon season when trails become slippery.
