A theft has been reported at the famous Shri Sankat Mochan Temple in Shimla, where an unidentified person made away with three silver crowns from the sanctum sanctorum and a gold nose ring (nath) of Mata Sita weighing roughly one tola. Cash was also stolen from the temple’s donation box.

Shimla Police have registered a case at Police Station West on November 1, 2026 under FIR No. 236/2026, invoking Sections 331(4) and 305(d) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police say the matter is being investigated thoroughly.

During the investigation, footage from CCTV cameras installed at the temple showed a suspicious person. Police have shared the suspect’s photograph with the public in an effort to establish his identity.

Shimla Police have urged anyone who recognises the person in the photograph, or has any information about him, to immediately contact Police Station Boileauganj or the District Shimla Police. Efforts are underway to trace the person involved in the theft and recover the stolen items.
