Voting will be held to elect the party’s national president today at the state Congress headquarters, Rajiv Bhawan, Shimla. 90 delegates from across the state will exercise their franchise. There is a contest between Mallikarjun Kharge and Shashi Tharoor for the post of National President of Congress.
Votes will be cast by ballot paper at Rajiv Bhawan Shimla from 10 am to 4 pm on Monday. Congress’s national spokesperson Alka Lamba is a delegate from Delhi Congress Committee. These days Alka Lamba is looking after the workload of media in Himachal due to the assembly elections. He has sought permission from Delhi’s election officer Madhusudan Mistry to exercise his vote in Shimla itself.
State Congress President Pratibha Singh, Leader of Opposition Mukesh Agnihotri, Election Campaign Committee President Sukhwinder Sukhu along with State, District and Block level officials will cast their vote as delegates at Rajiv Bhawan Shimla. Recently, in a meeting held in Shimla, the State Congress Committee had sent a one-line resolution to give Sonia Gandhi the right to take a decision regarding the national president on behalf of the state.
