A major road accident occurred near Tarangla in the Maseran area of Sarkaghat sub-division, Mandi district, Himachal Pradesh, when a Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus veered off the road and crashed into agricultural fields below. The accident claimed the lives of 7 passengers—4 women and 3 men—while 21 others, including the driver and conductor, sustained injuries.
According to police reports, 2 of the injured women succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment at the Ner Chowk Medical College. The remaining injured are currently being treated at Sarkaghat Hospital and Ner Chowk Medical College. 6 critically injured passengers, including the bus conductor, have been referred to AIIMS Bilaspur for advanced medical care.
DSP Sarkaghat, Sanjeev Gautam, confirmed the incident and said that a police team, along with local rescue workers, responded promptly to the accident site. The injured were transported to nearby hospitals via ambulances, while local residents also participated in the rescue operations. The cause of the accident is yet to be determined.
In a show of concern, Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri visited AIIMS Bilaspur on Thursday afternoon to meet with the injured. He spoke to the patients and their families and took updates from the attending doctors regarding their condition. Agnihotri expressed his condolences to the victims and assured that the government would extend all necessary support and assistance to those affected.
