Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced an increase in honorarium for public representatives just before panchayat and municipal body elections, timing the announcement ahead of Diwali festivities. The government has directed all departments to issue notifications with immediate effect from Wednesday.
The CM increased the honorarium of 21,115 mid-day meal workers by ₹500, raising it to ₹5,000. Similarly, 877 SMC C&V staff honorarium was increased from ₹15,509 to ₹16,009, while 833 SMC lecturers and DPE staff received a ₹500 hike to ₹19,378. The honorarium for 491 SMC TGT teachers was raised by ₹500 to ₹19,378, 62 SMC JBT teachers now receive ₹13,762 (₹500 increase), and 31 water carriers’ honorarium was increased to ₹5,500.
The state government increased Special Police Officer honorarium by ₹300, outsourced employees’ honorarium to ₹12,750, and IT teachers’ honorarium by ₹500. Additionally, daily wages for daily wagers and part-time workers were raised by ₹25 to ₹425. Sewing teachers’ honorarium increased by ₹500, while 1,399 panchayat chowkidars received a ₹500 hike to ₹8,500. The honorarium for 970 revenue chowkidars was raised to ₹6,300 (₹500 increase), and 3,304 lambardars now receive ₹4,500 (₹300 increase).
Panchayati Raj institution representatives benefit
The state government also increased honorarium for panchayati raj institution representatives and urban body representatives. Zilla Parishad chairperson honorarium was raised by ₹1,000 to ₹25,000, while vice-chairperson now receives ₹19,000. Zilla Parishad members get ₹8,300 (₹500 increase), Panchayat Samiti chairpersons ₹12,000 (₹600 increase), and Panchayat Samiti vice-chairpersons ₹9,000 (₹600 increase). Panchayat Samiti members’ honorarium was raised to ₹7,500 (₹300 increase).
Gram Panchayat pradhans now receive ₹7,500 (₹300 increase), up-pradhans ₹5,100 (₹300 increase), and gram panchayat members ₹2,100 (₹600 increase).
Municipal body representatives’ honorarium increased
Municipal corporation mayors’ honorarium was raised by ₹1,000 to ₹25,000, deputy mayors now receive ₹19,000 (₹1,000 increase), and councillors ₹9,400 (₹1,000 increase). Nagar Parishad chairpersons get ₹10,800 (₹600 increase), vice-chairpersons ₹8,900 (₹500 increase), and councillors ₹4,500 (₹300 increase).
Nagar Panchayat pradhans’ honorarium was increased to ₹9,000 (₹600 increase), up-pradhans to ₹7,000 (₹400 increase), and nagar panchayat members to ₹4,500 (₹300 increase).
The comprehensive honorarium hike covers thousands of public representatives, government workers, and daily wage earners across the state, coming as a pre-Diwali and pre-election announcement.
