Himachal Pradesh has once again made its mark on the global stage by securing the fifth position in the ‘Most Welcoming Region on Earth’ list at Booking.com’s Traveller Review Awards 2026. Notably, it is the only Indian state to feature in the top 10.
Mexico’s Hidalgo topped the list. The ranking was compiled based on over 370 million verified traveler reviews from around the world. Himachal was praised for its warm hospitality, cordial behavior of local people, and sense of belonging shown towards tourists.
Tourists visiting Himachal not only experience natural beauty but also feel a deep connection with the warmth of its people. The state capital Shimla attracts visitors with its winter snow cover, while Manali and Solang Valley are special for adventure enthusiasts. Peaceful hill stations like Dharamshala and McLeodganj provide spiritual solace, while remote regions like Lahaul-Spiti lure thrill-seekers.
Recognition of cultural richness
“The fifth position in the ‘Most Welcoming Destination’ list based on 370 million user data from the world’s largest online travel agency, and being the only representative from India, is proof that our hospitality, warmth, and cultural richness are being appreciated globally. The Tourism Department will continue to prioritize better infrastructure and local community participation to further strengthen this honor,” said Vivek Bhatia, Director, Tourism Department.
This recognition comes as a significant boost for Himachal’s tourism sector, highlighting that the state’s appeal extends beyond its scenic landscapes to encompass the genuine warmth and hospitality of its people. The award underscores Himachal’s position as a premier tourist destination that offers not just picturesque views but also an authentic and welcoming cultural experience to visitors from across the world.
