In the past, the minimum temperature of Lahaul has been recorded in minus in the month of March, but for the first time this year the minimum mercury has also crossed minus to three degrees. Environmental experts say that after the construction of the Atal Tunnel in the Lahaul Valley, there has been a change in the environment. The problem is increasing continuously due to the ever-increasing vehicular movement.
There is less greenery in the valley and the atmosphere is not able to absorb the carbon gas emitted by vehicles. This is directly affecting the temperature of Lahaul. At the same time, the farmers and gardeners of the valley are also troubled by the rising heat. Earlier in the month of March, sowing had to be done by removing snow from the fields, but this time snow is not visible anywhere in the fields. Farmers Surendra, Vir Singh, Anil, Ramesh, Kundan said that in the month of March it has not been so hot before. Due to rising heat, there may be shortage of water for drinking water and irrigation. District Agriculture Officer Chaudhary Ram said that due to the rise in mercury, there could be a crisis in the production of crops. Crops can be vulnerable to diseases due to heat.
