A 14-year-old minor has been arrested for a brutal assault on a 40-year-old woman in the Sasan area under Hamirpur Sadar police station. Preliminary investigation reveals that the accused attempted to molest the woman and launched a life-threatening attack when she resisted. The woman’s ear was partially severed in the attack, and she sustained serious injuries to her neck and head. The incident came to light on Monday afternoon.
The critically injured woman is undergoing treatment at PGI Chandigarh, where she has undergone surgery, but her condition remains critical. The woman was heading to the fields to cut grass when the minor attacked her with the intent to molest. The woman resisted, leading to a scuffle between them. The accused brutally assaulted her, leaving her severely injured. When she resisted, he attacked her with a sickle and a stick.
A villager who found the woman in an injured state informed her family and brought her to Medical College Hamirpur for treatment. Police also reached the spot upon receiving information. Preliminary investigation was conducted based on the complaint and statement of the victim’s brother-in-law.
ASP Rajesh Kumar also reached the spot. A sickle, stick, pen, and pieces of a broken scale were recovered from the scene. Villagers were questioned, evidence was collected, and CCTV footage from an adjacent house was examined, which showed the accused passing through the route. The forensic team inspected the scene and gathered evidence. Subsequently, police brought the minor accused from the village to the police station for questioning, where he confessed to the crime. The accused was taken to the spot for identification and will be presented in court on Wednesday.
ASP Rajesh Sharma stated that police detained the minor and conducted questioning. Preliminary investigation has clarified that when the woman resisted, he attacked her brutally.
