The Himachal Pradesh government will release the roster for panchayat elections by September 25, with all Deputy Commissioners directed to issue the schedules. Elections are planned for December across 3,577 gram panchayats, 91 panchayat samitis, and 249 zilla panchayat ward members.
The State Election Commission has begun preparations for panchayati raj institution elections, including preparation of duty rosters for officials and employees and updating voter lists.
Fresh reservations will be determined for the panchayat elections. The 2011 population census will serve as the basis for Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, and women’s reservations, while the 1993-94 survey will be referenced for OBC reservations. Development blocks will serve as units for determining panchayat pradhan reservations.
The Panchayati Raj Department has instructed Deputy Commissioners to begin the process of issuing reservation rosters for panchayati raj elections and has suggested a new formula for implementing the roster system.
