For the first time in Himachal Pradesh’s cricket history, two women players from the state will feature in a One Day International World Cup final. Fast bowler Renuka Singh Thakur and batter Harleen Deol, both representing the Himachal Pradesh cricket team, are key members of the Indian squad currently competing in the Women’s ODI World Cup, bringing pride to the state and etching their names in golden letters of history.
Until now, no Himachal player had participated in an ODI Cricket World Cup. This time, two Himachali women are playing for the Indian team in the World Cup. Looking at the records, Harleen Deol has delivered strong performances in the matches played so far, scoring 169 runs in five encounters. She played a 48-run innings against Sri Lanka in the first match and scored 46 runs against Pakistan.
Renuka Singh Thakur has bowled economically in the World Cup, though she has had to struggle for wickets, claiming only three in five matches. In a league match, Renuka dismissed the New Zealand captain bowled, paving the way for India’s victory. The Indian team will play the ODI World Cup final on November 2, where it remains to be seen how both Himachali players perform.
Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Secretary Avanish Parmar stated it is a matter of pride for the state that two Himachali women players are part of the Indian team in the ongoing ODI World Cup being held in India. Their performance has been good, and he hopes both players will be in India’s playing eleven for the final and deliver strong performances to help India become world champions.
