Himachal Pradesh government will award Rs 1 crore to Indian fast bowler and Himachal’s daughter Renuka Singh Thakur for her crucial contribution to India’s victory in the Women’s Cricket World Cup. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu made this announcement on Monday, stating that the Rohru native fulfilled the dream that every mountain daughter sees.
The Chief Minister praised Renuka’s journey, saying that becoming part of a World Cup-winning team by overcoming struggles is a pride for both the country and Himachal. He emphasized that Renuka demonstrated how every goal can be achieved through passion and belief. CM Sukku congratulated Renuka, her mother, and her family on this achievement, also paying tribute to Renuka’s late father, whose inspiration has today become the pride of entire Himachal.
Chief Minister Sukku spoke with Renuka Singh over the phone, congratulating the Indian women’s cricket team on winning the World Cup and appreciating Renuka’s performance in the tournament.
Renuka wears jersey number 10, which has been worn by cricket legends including Sachin Tendulkar (India)—the number has been retired in his honor in India; Lasith Malinga (Sri Lanka), famous for his slinging action and deadly yorkers; Kumar Sangakkara (Sri Lanka), who wore number 10 in some tournaments; and Shakib Al Hasan (Bangladesh), one of the world’s top all-rounders.
Renuka’s bowling career statistics show she has played 3 Tests, 27 ODIs, and 54 T20 matches, taking 2, 41, and 58 wickets respectively. Her bowling average in Tests is 90, in ODIs 25, and in T20s 21, with strike rates of 150, 30, and 20 respectively across the three formats.
