Himachal Pradesh Forest Department has launched the Him Evergreen Project to reduce increasing air pollution in the state by incentivizing farmers and landowners to plant trees on their private land. Under the scheme, farmers will receive financial compensation for plantation, with the initiative set to begin from the upcoming monsoon season.

According to information, the Forest Department has launched the Him Evergreen Project to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (carbon credit) and increasing carbon dioxide pollution. Under this scheme, landowners or farmers can plant trees on their vacant grasslands or private land. The Forest Department will provide saplings free of cost to farmers and pay Rs 20 for planting and Rs 30 after the sapling survives. Additionally, after proper evaluation of these plants in five years, approximately Rs 2,000 for fifty plants will be deposited in the landowner’s account. This amount will increase further in subsequent years based on the number of plants.

Under this scheme, except for fruit-bearing plants, species like oak, deodar, pine, kachnar, and timber-yielding plants can also be planted. The scheme launched under the Forest Department’s Him Evergreen Project is expected to provide greenery to the state in coming years along with relief from pollution, which will be beneficial for everyone.
