Dharamshala’s Urvashi Thapa will once again represent India at the International Masters Veteran Badminton Championship, to be held in Thailand from September 7 to 14. She is the only player from Himachal Pradesh to qualify for the tournament after her remarkable performance at the National Veteran Badminton Championship held in Goa from March 16 to 23.
At the national-level competition, around nine players from Kangra district participated, and Urvashi stood out by winning two silver medals in the 50+ age category. Her performance secured her place in the Thailand championship. For the past six years, Urvashi has been consistently representing India in international events and has brought pride to both Himachal Pradesh and the country.
Kangra Badminton Association Secretary Vilas Hans praised Urvashi’s achievement, noting that her consistent hard work and talent have made her a key figure in veteran badminton. Urvashi herself expressed determination to bring home a medal this time for India.
Her international career began in Germany, followed by representing India in Spain in 2021, Japan in 2022, and the prestigious All England Masters in 2024. Now, she looks forward to making an impact in Thailand.
