Six High Courts of the country including Himachal Pradesh got their Chief Justice on Sunday. Justice Amjad A Syed of Bombay High Court has been appointed as the Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh. This information has been given by tweeting on behalf of the Ministry of Law. Five judges have been upgraded to the Chief Justice, while Telangana High Court Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma has been transferred as the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court.
Their names were recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium last month. According to the Ministry’s Law Department, Justice Vipin Sanghi of the Delhi High Court has been made the Chief Justice of Uttarakhand. Justice SS Shinde of the Bombay High Court has been made the Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court, while RM Chhaya of the Gujarat High Court has been made the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court.
Justice Ujjal Bhuiyan of Telangana High Court has been made the Chief Justice of this High Court. It is noteworthy that the Delhi High Court had no regular Chief Justice since Justice DN Patel retired on March 13. Justice Sanghi was handling the charge of Acting Chief Justice.
Born on January 21, 1961, Justice Syed graduated in law from Bombay University in the year 1984. He was also an Assistant Public Prosecutor in the Bombay High Court. He has advocated on behalf of the government in public interest matters relating to important issues such as mangroves, garbage dumping, free and subsidized medical treatment for the poor in charitable hospitals, biomedical waste and malnutrition. Justice Amjad A Syed will serve as Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court till January 21, 2023.
