Oshin Sharma, currently posted as SDM Shimla (Urban), has emerged as one of the most recognizable faces in Himachal’s administrative landscape. Known not just for her work as a civil servant but also for her strong social media presence, she has become an inspiration for many aspiring youth in the state.
A native of Kangra district and raised in Shimla, Oshin’s journey to administrative success wasn’t an easy one. Her academic path began with a dream of becoming a doctor, which eventually shifted toward civil services during her college days. After completing her post-graduation in Chemistry from Panjab University, she decided to pursue competitive exams. Her perseverance paid off in 2019 when she cracked the BDO (Block Development Officer) exam.
Despite securing a government job, Oshin did not pause her efforts. She continued her preparations and in her second attempt, she successfully cleared the Himachal Administrative Services (HAS) examination with an impressive 10th rank. She has previously served as Assistant Commissioner cum BDO in Naggar, Kullu.
Oshin’s story is not just about her administrative journey but also about resilience. In a close miss, she fell short of qualifying for the UPSC Civil Services by just 5 marks. However, setbacks never deterred her, and she transformed them into motivation.
She is also actively involved in social initiatives and youth engagement. Recently, she was appointed as a brand ambassador for Ladli Foundation.
Her personal life has also been in the public eye. On April 25, 2021, she married Vishal Nehriyan, then a BJP MLA from Dharamshala. However, the relationship ended in a legal separation following allegations of domestic abuse. Oshin has since maintained privacy regarding the issue.
Her career saw a recent jolt when, while serving as Tehsildar in Sandhol, she was issued a notice by the SDM of Dharampur based on a review conducted by the DC of Mandi. The notice highlighted alleged unsatisfactory performance and pending official tasks. Following this, she was transferred without a station and asked to report to the Department of Personnel in Shimla. Oshin has not publicly commented on the matter and later she was appointed as Assistant Secretary in the Department of Language, Art & Culture, Himachal Pradesh.
Despite controversies, her popularity on social media remains intact. With over 3.45 lakh followers on Instagram, she continues to engage with the public, sharing administrative insights, motivational content, and guidance for civil services aspirants.
Oshin Sharma’s story is a compelling blend of determination, challenges, public service, and personal growth. Her journey continues to inspire thousands of young individuals across Himachal and beyond.
