As per a report by the Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), a total of 199 lives have been lost and public and private property worth over ₹1,905.5 crore has been damaged in Himachal Pradesh between June 20 and August 6, 2025, due to monsoon-related disasters.
The SDMA stated that out of the total 199 deaths, 108 were caused by rain-triggered calamities such as landslides, flash floods, cloudbursts, and lightning strikes. In addition to these, 91 people died in road accidents during the same period.
The disruption to essential infrastructure remains a major concern. According to the latest public utility status report released by the State Emergency Operation Centre at 5 PM on August 6, as many as 533 roads remain blocked across the state, including key national highways NH-3, NH-5, NH-21, and NH-305. Furthermore, 635 power distribution transformers (DTRs) are non-functional, and 266 water supply schemes have been affected, severely impacting daily life.
Districts like Mandi, Kullu, and Kangra are among the worst hit. Mandi alone reported the highest number of rain-related deaths (23) and significant damage to infrastructure. Rescue and rehabilitation operations continue in difficult terrains under ongoing rainfall conditions.
The SDMA also reported injuries to 304 people and confirmed that 36 individuals are still missing. The estimated total loss to public and private infrastructure, including roads, homes, agriculture, horticulture, power, and water sectors, has been pegged at ₹1,90,550.45 lakh (₹1,905.5 crore).
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted more rain in the state till August 12, and the administration remains on high alert.
