Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena on Friday evening reviewed the situation in flood and landslide-affected areas of Chamba and other districts following heavy rainfall. Helicopter operations successfully evacuated 25 people from Bharmour to Chamba in five flights, while adequate food supplies, officials, and PWD machinery wing personnel were airlifted to Bharmour.
Local officials have been directed to provide relief under the provisions of the Disaster Management Act. The meeting was informed that the road from Chamba to Saluni and further to Koti Bridge has been restored. The road from Koti Bridge to Sanghani village under Saluni sub-division has been opened for light vehicles, with heavy vehicle movement expected to resume by Saturday.
Road restoration work from Sanghani to Ghundimanan near the Jammu-Kashmir border is continuing on a war footing. Chief Secretary Saxena said approximately 1,500 people are currently stranded at Chamba Chaugan. The Chamba administration has arranged buses and taxis from Nurpur, Kangra, and Pathankot depots to safely transport around 5,000 people who are walking towards Chamba to their destinations.
Director and Special Secretary Disaster Management DC Rana reported that efforts are ongoing to restore communication services in Chuwadi, Chamba, Saluni, Tisa, and Dalhousie. Fuel has been dispatched to restore communication services in Jispa, Darcha, and Myar in Lahaul-Spiti district.
The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary KK Pant, PWD Secretary Dr Abhishek Jain, PWD Special Secretary Harbans Singh Braskone, and General Administration Secretary Praveen Tak.
