HPSEBL records ₹315 Crore profit for the first time in history

hpsebl earns 315 crore profit

In a significant financial turnaround, the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited (HPSEBL) has recorded a historic profit of ₹315 crore for the financial year 2024–25 — the highest ever in the board’s history. This achievement marks a crucial shift for the power utility that had been reeling under losses for decades. As of March 31, 2024, HPSEBL’s cumulative losses had touched ₹3,742 crore.

According to the state government spokesperson, the remarkable recovery was made possible by structural reforms, transparent administrative policies, and strict financial discipline introduced by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. From day one in office, the Chief Minister prioritized economic reform and good governance and issued clear instructions to all public sector undertakings to strive for operational efficiency and self-reliance.

The electricity board implemented this vision through effective revenue management, expenditure control, and fiscal accountability, which collectively helped transform losses into record profits.

With improved financial stability, the board has now allocated ₹368.89 crore towards employee and pensioner benefits for the fiscal year 2024–25. These benefits include gratuity payments, medical reimbursements, revised pension arrears, and leave encashment. Notably, this allocation is more than four times the ₹87.56 crore spent last year. Of this year’s allocation, ₹187.86 crore has already been disbursed as of July 31, 2025.

Chief Minister Sukhu has congratulated the management, officers, and employees of HPSEBL for this historic achievement and termed it a testament to the government’s commitment to economic revival and institutional efficiency.
