Shimla water crisis

The water level in all schemes has gone down during summers and remedial measures are being taken and a schedule is being made for the supply during the summer and peak tourist season, said Urban Development Minister Suresh Bhardwaj.

Bhardwaj, who visited the site of the Giri water supply scheme, said the silt in the Giri water supply scheme had been removed and a tube settler would be installed soon, he said.

The SJPNL is providing water tankers free of cost in localities facing water scarcity and can be contacted on the Helpline number 0177-2658916.

Shimla Jal Prabandhan Nigam Limited (SJPNL) has said every area will get water regularly on alternate days from tomorrow. “Following the rain, water level has increased in the sources. Besides, other issues that affected the supply have also been sorted out. So, we are confident of sticking to our alternate day schedule,” said SJPNL General Manager RK Verma in a press conference here today.

“In case some areas still face problems, they will be provided water through tankers. The situation will not be allowed to go out of hands,” said Verma.
