A 15-year-old class 9 student at Roots Country School in Baghi, Shimla district, died on Sunday morning after falling from the fifth floor of the hostel building. Jessica Sharma, from Panipat district in Haryana, was rushed to Government Hospital Kotkhai where she was declared brought dead.

The incident occurred around 6 AM when most students were asleep due to the Sunday holiday. The school management immediately informed the family members about the tragedy. Police officials have confirmed the incident and registered a case, with investigations currently ongoing.

Her uncle Amit Sharma stated that Jessica had come home a few days ago due to illness. On Saturday evening, she called her mother saying, “Tell papa that I don’t want to take admission here next session.” He added that Jessica was performing well academically, making the incident difficult to understand.

Family members reviewed CCTV footage at the school and hostel with police, which showed the student going to the fifth floor in the morning. However, the exact location from where she fell could not be determined from the footage. Jessica’s elder brother is also a class 12 student at the same school.

The student was brought to Kotkhai Health Centre after the incident, where doctors declared her dead. The post-mortem examination will be conducted at IGMC Shimla on Monday. Local police have confirmed the case but have not shared official information about the circumstances. Shimla Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Gandhi stated that police are investigating all aspects of the case.

Family members said Jessica never mentioned any problems either at home or at school, making the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident unclear. The investigation continues as authorities work to understand what led to this tragedy.
